Sweethope Lough offers some of the finest lake fly fishing in the north of England, on two lakes set in the beautiful wild Northumbria uplands and is open from March 1st to December 31st.
Brown trout are natural to the water, and big rainbows are stocked regularly. Fly fishing only is allowed either from the bank, or from boats, which may be reserved in advance.
There are three 4 hourly fishing sessions each day, starting at 9 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. (in the summer). Fishermen may fish a single session or a double session.
Tickets are available at the office at Lough House. Season tickets are also available. A supply of National River Authority licences is held for the convenience of customers.

Viscount Devonport Sweethope Challenge
Since 1999 Lord Devonport has donated the use of the fishery Sweethope Loughs to hold the Viscount Devonport Sweethope Challenge which is an annual FREE event for disabled anglers. Since it began the number of entrants has increased each year, and it is now the largest event of its type held in the country with over 140 entrants. Prizes and support are donated by local businesses, and staff and friends of the fishery arrange a buffet for the competitors. The age of competitors range is from youngsters to pensioners.
